Lakeside’s annual “Field Day” activities are scheduled for Wednesday, May 23 (grades K-2) from 10:50-3:40 p.m. and Thursday, May 24 (grades 3-4) from 12:00-3:15 p.m.  You can contact Mr. Wiggins, Physical Education Teacher, at 532-2883 if you’re interested in helping out on these two days.

Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) and your child’s school have partnered to raise money for their school, save energy for Indianapolis, and pay you the customer $20! For every qualifying enrollment, IPL will give your school $20.

When your join CoolCents*, you reduce the use of electricity on high demand days in the summer months by letting IPS briefly cycle your home’s air conditioning unit!  IPL will install a radio switch on the outside of your home, con- nected to the central air conditioner.  Then during periods of high demand in the months of May- September, IPL may cycle the compressor off and on for short periods.

Enroll in CoolCents* program today!  Every enrollment card turned in by students April 16- April 27th earns their school AND you the cus- tomer $20!  Please help raise money for your school by continuing to support and encourage students to save energy every day.

Every grade in your school will be competing against each other for number of enrollments.  The grade level with the most qualifying enroll- ments will earn a pizza party!  And, you’ll save energy for Indianapolis and earn $20 for your family.  How COOL is that?

Signing up is easy!  Just turn in your enrollment card or go to www.IPLCOOLSCHOOLS.com.   You can also call (1-800-305-0982).  Whether you enroll online or by calling, make sure the school and grade level information is provided to ensure correct credit is given!

Congratulations to our Warren Wellness Extravaganza bicycle winners.  They are DeJuan H., a first grader, and Lauren G., a second grader.  A great job to all Lakeside students that attended the 7th annual Warren Wellness Extravaganza!

Yearbook orders have been turned in to Lifetouch for those who have pre-ordered a book.  As soon as the yearbooks arrive, they will be distributed.   

Lifetouch has made a few additional yearbooks available for sale on a first come/first served basis. They will be delivered at the same time as the pre-ordered yearbooks. If your child would still like a copy, the cost will be $13.00.  Please include your child’s name and teacher’s name along with the payment. If you are paying by check, please make the check payable to  Lakeside Elementary.

Please have your child check the “Lost and Found” bins in the nurse’s office if they are missing any personal articles.  The bins are filling very quickly with coats, hats, and other various items.  Anything not claimed by the last day of school will be donated to a worthy charity.
 

Rather than interrupting the learning time, we ask that birthdays and other personal celebrations not be planned during our school hours, please do not send party invitations, treats, balloons, or flowers to school. 




 

Our students are in need of adults to support them in school by volunteering on the PTA Board.  There are various board positions open as well as committee opportunities.  If you are interested in serving our students through the PTA, please call Lakeside’s office at 532—2850.  You may also send your information in with your child.  The PTA looks forward to helping provide a successful new school year at Lakeside for 2012-2013.

The clinic is in need  of gently used uniform clothing, especially pants.  Children’s clothing sizes are preferred.  We would also gladly accept any donations of new boys and girls socks and underwear of all sizes.  We are very appreciative of any donations made so far this year by our school family.




 

Lakeside's annual spring carnival will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16th at the school.  The PTA is looking for volunteers to help with setup, games, and clean-up.  You can also help by donating 2-liter bottles of pop and boxes of snack cackes (i.e. Little Debbie).  Please call the Lakeside office at 532-2850 if you can help.



 

We are now taking orders for Lakeside Elementary School 2011-2012 yearbooks. March 16th is the last day to place your order. The cost is only $14. To order, either pick up form in the office or send an envelope
with your child’s name and room number on it, enclosing the $14.00. Checks can be made out to
Lakeside PTA. The yearbooks will be delivered by the beginning of May.


 

Lakeside Students did a wonderful job during our annual “Jump Rope for Heart” event.  Lakeside has raised $2,753.00 for the American Heart Association to fight heart disease.  Outstanding job Lakeside students.
 

Healthy Smiles is coming to Lakeside Elementary on Wednesday and Thursday, March 7th and 8th.  Healthy Smiles is a school based dental program providing check-ups, cleanings, x-rays, and dental education among other things to students.  All students are eligible for this service. Parent preview dates for the Human Growth and Development videos will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24th at Raymond Park Intermediate Academy School for Grade 5 and 6 parents, 8575 E. Raymond Street and on Wednesday, January 25th at Grassy Creek Elementary School for Grade 4 parents, 10330 E. Prospect Street at 6:30 p.m.

These videos will be shown to present fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys and girls, separately, with parent permission.  Discussion led by personnel from the Social Health Association of Indiana will follow the showing of the videos at both the adult previews and the pupil programs.  Parents are encouraged to attend one of the parent preview nights.

Fourth grade boys will see “Just Around the Corner for Boys” and fourth grade girls will see “Just Around the Corner for Girls”.  Fifth grade boys will see “We’re Growing Up”, fifth grade girls will see “We’re Growing Up”.  Sixth grade boys will see ”A Baby is Born”, and sixth grade girls will see “A Baby is Born”.

Lakeside students will view the films on February 24, 2012.  If you do not want your child to participate, a note should be given to your child's teacher by Monday, February 20, 2012.
